Sepsis is a serious illness caused by the body’s strong reaction to an infection. Instead of just fighting the infection, the body starts to harm its own organs.

It can get worse very quickly and can be life-threatening if not treated fast.

Signs of sepsis may include:

  • Fever or feeling very cold

  • Fast heartbeat or breathing

  • Confusion or extreme tiredness

  • Pale or blotchy skin

Sepsis is a medical emergency. If you think someone has it, get medical help right away.
